possible to connect a USB external hard drive to an Android?

Hello, I have an Android phone, and can easily get a USB external hard drive to host media files. Is it possible to buy the correct cables to convert the micro-usb of the phone to the mini-usb of a typical hard drive? And will it work from Android software perspective? Thank you.

Is laptop clusterring possible?

I am curious if I can cluster the two laptops I have available, by connecting them through wired ethernet. They are both running linux (antiX and Sabayon). If so, how is it done? I haven` t managed to foind clear instructions on the web. (I believe that it won `t be practical, I just want to experim...

Re: Finding any Linux to run on my laptop?

Most modern distros come with kernels that have PAE enabled by default. Sadly, some versions of tthe Pentium M (those with a 400MHz frontside bus) don't support PAE. Some distributions, like Debian and Slackware, deliver kernels on their install media without PAE, so that you can use those to instal...

Re: script for samba to run to shutdown server?

Because there are no good SSH clients for the Xbox. @Hailey's_Comet: You don't even need a separate share for this. Copy a small mp3 file to your normal share and call it shutdown.mp3, so that you can open it with the Xbox. Now you can use inotify to wait for that file to be opened by you and use th...

Re: change password without knowing current password?

My question is, Why do you have a user called admin with the same uid as root? That's just bad and opens this machine up to all kinds of security related issues. I'd like to know the reason behind this, if any? If it's for some application, I'd talk to the developers to rethink how they need to deve...

can ubuntu's update manager be hacked?

more often than not, update manager does not ask for authorization when I click the 'install updates' button.
is there a possibility that the update manager can be compromised and 'infected' code will be installed?

What phones can run GNU/Linux?

Hi, I would like to buy a mobile phone, that can run a GNU/Linux distribution. I prefer a distribution, where a long lifetime can be expected, something like OpenWRT for phones. I've read about the Nokia N9, but it seems, that Meego's development has stopped (no more activity for more than one year)...

Help, can't install Ubuntu or Debian on my laptop!

I am unable to load an operating system and can only use "mini-Linux" from memory. I don't know that much about computers or programming but have seen a secret partition on my hard drive and also loop0 and loop1. I'm not sure what command I did to find this but it said there was several virtual modu...
