I just found out that there is a cable for just what you are talking about. It is called "USB on the go" and you can get them for like $10.00. I believe they are designed for tablets, but they are designed for Android, so you should be able to get it to work.

Okay, I will give Debian a try. But, being that the only distro I have ever installed so far has been Ubuntu, can you clarify if the install process is really as complicated as outlined in http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ ?

Well, anyone in the Unix world all know root is god. I've seen plenty of accounts created as admin that aren't necessarily given anything close to root privileges. When I think of admin or administrator, I think of Windows.

as for hacking, I blindly install all updates that update manager sends me. sometimes the changes it makes to my system do not appear obvious and any changes that are glaringly obvious are still accepted and become the new normal. how do I know that the password requirments for updates did not chang...

I think it's solid as well-

Not sure how to give Win 60 or 80 Megs but I think during the install of the distro I wanna put on this Vaio I'll have the
opportunity to shrink Win and if not I should be able to dedicate 20 GB for the distro / and 1 GB for a swap-

I had a brain freeze I did not mean to use format!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really meant to type PARTITION!!!
