When I click on the video I get a blank screen When I say that all my players don`t work (I have some more ), I mean they all work fine but not with this particular wmv file. Really strange . Re: Finding any Linux to run on my laptop?

Debian doesn't want to boot from the memory stick either. So neither Lubuntu or Debian boot from the stick. I prepared both by using UNetbootin, and both boot to my desktop PC fine. As a side note, Debian xfce does boot in Live mode - and very fast it is too. I may hang onto that just to use on my d...

Re: can ubuntu's update manager be hacked?

The tick box appears when you are asked to supply your password. If you tick it then you will not be asked for your password again which is why you are not seeing it.
There is probably a way to reset the behaviour but I haven't had the need to do it myself.

Re: What phones can run GNU/Linux?

As far as I am aware, only the Google API is closed source in Android. The entire OS can run without them.

I have seen that you can run Ubuntu on some android phones

I don't know much about it though.

Re: Sony Vaio and Linux

while it will work the those tools (GParted is by the way able to make use of ntfsresize, you don't have to invoke it manually)I personally prefer to use the windows partition manager to shrink the windows partition.

Re: Nebie with RSYNC

If you want the ease of a graphical setup, consider using grsync. Also, you should use anacron instead of cron, for the rysnc job, as a laptop is unlikely to be on 24/7... Actually, and more properly, use cron to run an anacron job to do the backups,... That way you can specify they get done if the ...

Re: Should you install Linux alongside Windows?

You really can't make comparisons about any OS by running it in a virtual environment. Ubuntu is very user friendly and configurable. Mark Shuttleworth it's founder designed it that way. It has a learning curve but so does Windows to a newcomer. Anything that can be done in Windows can be done in Ub...
